undefinedAmritsar, July 22 : All India Sikh Students Federation (AISF) president Karnail Singh Peermohammad has submitted a memorandum to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh seeking his intervention into the alleged conversion of Sikh children into Islam by former DGP Mohammad Izhar Alam.

Peermohammad alleged that the former super cop was actively involved in converting Sikh children of poor farmer families to Islam. He disclosed that more than 480 mosques were built across Punjab under Alam’s patronage.

He also alleged that former DGP Alam contributed Rs 99,000 for construction of each mosque, apart from appointing Imams.

“A 21-member committee has been appointed to take care of each mosque. Most of the members of the committee are Sikhs who have converted and use Khan with their names now,” the AISSF president alleged.

The memorandum further states that during insurgency, Alam had played pro-active role in killing of Sikh youths. He, in connivance, with Mohd Sadiqui and Mohd Mustafa brought Muslims to Punjab and now they are building mosques, especially in Malwa region.

Peermohammad said he had substantial proof against Alam. On June 20, 2012 a mosque was erected in village Rode (district Moga), June 23, 2012 village Sanaur (district Patiala). Apart from that mosques have been constructed in village Chhajawal (Ludhiana), villages Hero Khurd, Lasarha, Ghavaddi, Chhapar, Handiyaya, Bhadaur, Sekha Khurd and Mehal Kalan.

“Sikhs earlier named Gurmel Singh, Gursewak Singh are now known as Gurmel Khan, Gursewak Khan, Gurtej Khan and so on.”

He flayed Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) and Akali government for its inability to stop such conversions. Demanding inquiry into the conversions, Peermohammad also asked the state government to prevent such malpractices.

The memorandum submitted also carries signature of 565 Sikhs from Gurdwara Freemont, USA.

Others present on the occasion included Baljeet Singh, Dharam Singh, Sandeep Kaur, Rajandeep Singh.

Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh while expressing concern over the conversions said he will ask SGPC Dharam Parchar Committee to probe the matter and will act on the issue soon.
