ABGP celebrates National Consumer Rights Day

undefinedChennai, January 9: Akhil Bhartiya Grahak Panchayat (ABGP) an all India consumer movement celebrated National Consumer Rights Day on January 6 at Dharmamurthi Rao Bahadur Calavala Cunnan Chetty’s Higher Secondary School, Perambur, and Chennai.

E. Mariappan, IIS, Director (News), Doordarshan, Chennai was the chief guest. He distributed prizes and certificates to the students who won the oratorical competition on various consumer related topics.

M. N. Sundar, ABGP State Coordinator started the function with patriotic and environmental song. T. Srinivasan, Assistant Head Master of the school presided over the function.

Pushpanjali was performed to Swami Vivekananda’s photo as a mark of respect on his 150th birth anniversary celebrations.

M. K. Balasubramanian, ABGP National Council Member & Chennai Coordinator elaborated about ABGP‘s achievements on various civic and other issue, its contribution to create awareness to consumers and to protect their interest as consumers. He informed the gathering that ABGP is conducting a number of programs to students of various schools to make them knowledgeable consumers.

Vijay Kumar, Consumer Protection Department Govt. of Tamil Nadu briefed about Guarantee & Warranty of goods. He impressed upon the need for better coordination of consumer movements with State Government.

E. Mariappan, IIS, Director (News) Doordarshan and chief guest of the function advised the students to enrich their knowledge on consumer awareness and take up the message to their parents also. He narrated his experience as a bus passenger in a way side hotel where stale food items were served and that too at unreasonably high price.

He asked the students to eat home prepared food and to avoid taking junk foods. He emphasized the need of knowing about MRP, manufacturing date, expiry date etc., of the products they desire to buy.

He asked the students the imperative need to follow the teachings of Swami Vivekananda   whose birth day is celebrated as National Youth Day. He appreciated ABGP for the yeomen service rendered to Consumers of India through    hundred s’ of its awakening centers’ throughout India.

He distributed prizes to the students of the school who won on oratorical competition on various consumer related topics and distributed certificates to the participants and encouraged the students to come up in life.

Vivekanandan, ABGP North Chennai Coordinator thanked the dignitaries, teachers and students of the school for making the function a grand success.
