Big Win for BJP: Gram Panchayat cleared swiftly; PM Modi thanked people of Maharashtra

Mumbai, October 10: Bhartiya Janata Party led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis won the first phase of Gram Panchayat Elections in Maharashtra. Cherishing this victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated and said “wonderful victory of @BJP4Maharashtra in rural areas shows the unwavering support of the farmers, youth & poor for BJP's development agenda. Also thanking the people’s contribution to this victory, PM Modi said I thank people of Maharashtra for the impressive win of BJP in Gram Panchayat polls across the state. 

“People have shown confidence in the development agenda of Prime Minister Narendra Modiji and our state government,” Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis was quoted as saying.

 
 

As many as 3,884-gram panchayats went to polls in the first phase on October 7. Of these, election results of 2,974 bodies were declared on Monday. While the BJP won around 50 percent of the gram panchayats, the Congress came at second, followed by Shiv Sena and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP). The BJP has won 1,457, followed by Congress (301), Shiv Sena (222) and Nationalist Congress Party (194).

Maharashtra President Bhartiya Janata Party, Raosaheb Danve as saying, “The victory comes on the back of the hat-trick of victories we scored in the municipal council, Zilla Parishad and municipal corporation polls. The victory proves that the measures and welfare programmes that the Modi government and the Fadnavis government are implementing are reaching the rural population,” in a statement. In the second phase, polling for 3,692-gram panchayats spread over 16 districts of Maharashtra would be held on 14 October and the counting will take place on 16 October.
