Film industry happily welcomes eminent actor Anupam Kher as new chairman of FTII

Pune, October 11: The veteran Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has been appointed as the new Chairman of Film and Television Institute of India, the most famous film school in the country. He is replacing ex-chairman Gajendra Chauhan was appointed to the post in June 2015. Kher’s experience both in acting and administrative work of institutes is unquestionable as he already headed Central Board of Film Certification and the National School of Drama.

Anupam Kher received his schooling from National School of Drama. After that, he started his career in theatre. His success in over 100 plays and 450 films made him a Padmabhushan winner. He is the only actor in industry holding the record of winning eight consecutive Filmfare awards. His international career is also amazing as he worked with Gurinder Chaddha, David O Russell, Ang Lee and Woody Allen. He is the only Indian actor to have shared screen space with the legendary actor Robert De Niro in the Oscar-nominated movie Silver Linings Playbook.

Film industry expressed happiness over Anupam Kher’s appointment. "He will be a very good chairman. He has the credentials for this. I am very happy...thank you Modi Ji, thank you, Smriti Irani, for this," said Kher's wife Kirron Kher.

It is very significant that the actor was actor and student in both the institutions NSD and FTII. After heading NSD, now he is going to head another one which housed him. After receiving the news he tweeted, I feel deeply humbled & honored to be apportioned as the Chairman of iconic FTII. I will perform my duties to the best of my abilities. “
