Vigilance probe ordered against Oommen Chandy in 2013 solar scam by Kerala Govt

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, October 11: In the 2013 Kerala Solar Scam, Former Chief Minister of Kerala Oommen Chandy has been found guilty by the Justice G Sivarajan commission. He is directly found involved in the solar scam. The vigilance department will proceed the investigation of the case.

 

The vigilance probe will be appointed to conclude the criminal case against the former home minister of Kerala, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan for abetting the crime said the Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan.

The Justice G Sivarajan commission was appointed by the United Democratic Front (UDF) government which stated that along with Chandy appointed his minister Radhakrishnan to vanquish the facts of the scam to save the former CM.

In 2013, a fraudulent solar energy company, Team Solar which used the support of two women to create political contacts with links even to the Chief Minister's office,offering them to become business partners by showing an amount of 70 million Rupees and also by offering to install solar power units for them, and receiving advance payments for the same.

Five persons have been arrested in the scam. The main accused, Saritha Nair and one of the Chief Minister’s personal aides Tenny Joppan have been arrested. Other people accused in the case who have been arrested are Biju Radhakrishnan, and Malayalam movie and TV actress Shalu Menon.

Oommen Chandy was two times Chief Minister of Kerala from 2004 to 2006 and again from 2011 to 2016. He was also Leader of the Opposition in the Kerala Legislative Assembly from 2006 to 2011. He is a Member of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, since 1970, representing Puthuppally.
