Finally! Iraqi troops liberated entire Hawijah area from ISIS
Baghdad, October 11: The most dangerous terrorist group the Islamic States has fallen weak in many countries including Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria as the pro-government forces backed by US coalition is eradicating them effectively. Finally, Iraqi fighters have reclaimed the entire Hawijah area from Islamic State (IS) terrorist in the west of the oil-rich city of Kirkuk.
Notably, on Wednesday a Commander of Hawijah Operations Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah announced the liberation of the city of Hawijah. “However, the troops were still on their advance outside the city to hunt down the extremists and to recapture the remaining rural area, known as Hawijah Pocket,” Lt. Gen. Abdul Amir Yarallah added.
Yarallah further said that the Iraqi army, Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS), federal police, interior ministry's commandos, known as Rapid Response, and the paramilitary brigades of Hashd Shaabi, completed their tasks in the liberation of Hawijah area from the extremist IS terrorists.
The liberation mission of Hawijah was a part of an offensive that began on September 29 of this year after Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced to dislodge IS terrorists from their stronghold in the city and surrounding areas.
Earlier, in the month of September this year, Iraqi fighters also reclaimed the entire province strategic Tal Afar after defeating Islamic State terrorists. At least 200 Islamic State terrorists were killed in the southwestern direction of Tal Afar while 200 others were arrested by the Iraqi troops who were hiding among the displaced civilians in the northeast during the massive offensive drive.
Iraqi forces launched the operation three months before after reclaiming Mosul city from ISIS. The Iraqi forces were backed by a US-led international coalition carrying out a campaign of air strikes against IS. During the intense battle between Iraqi forces and ISIS, more than 30,000 civilians were displaced and thousands others were used as a shield.
