New Delhi, October 11: The decision on the dispute going on between Odisha and Chhattisgarh over Mahanadi River will be taken next month said the government to Supreme Court.  The notification will be issued by the center.

To stop the construction work of the projects on the upstream of the Hirakud Dam, the Odisha government had moved to the Supreme Court in December last year. Chhattisgarh's plan to build 13 barrages and seven small dams across the Mahanadi is opposed by the Odisha. The farmers will be adversely affected by this step, if more water will be extracted, Odisha said.

The Water Resources Ministry said that it will be decided on November 19. The Government of Odisha had reported that Chhattisgarh had started many projects upstream of Hirakud Dam, which would have the long-term effect on the flow downstream especially during the lean period.
