New Delhi, October 11: Medical facilities provided by the private hospitals are so unaffordable for the patients that they often continue to live their life with illness. Highlighting this particular issue, Vice-President Venkaiah Naidu has said that the medical fraternity to treat their profession as a mission to provide healthcare to the masses at an affordable and reasonable cost. He said this during the two book launches of ‘Minimally Invasive GI Cancer Surgery’ authored by renowned laparoscopic surgeon, Dr. C. Palanivelu and ‘Bariatric Surgical Practice Guide’, edited by Dr. P. Praveen Raj.

Naidu further asserted that people consider a doctor to be next to God. He exhorted the medical fraternity to adopt a humanitarian approach while providing medical care to people. Sensitizing people about the dangers of leading a sedentary lifestyle and eating junk food should be taught by the doctors. Modern lifestyle, diet and genetic predisposition are believed to be among the major contributing factors for this trend, he added.

He also warned about obesity being one of the factors contributing to the GI cancers. GI cancers occur due to fast foods, smoking, alcohol and life style changes. To stop this habit, he asked people to read the aforementioned two books. The book highlights every minute detail of GI cancer. Furthermore, Vice-President also said that India was once known as ‘Vishwaguru’ and showed the path to the rest of the world. The history should repeat again and India must become a medical hub, where foreigners would visit India for their treatment and not vice-versa.
