Volcanic eruption in Southwestern Japan prompts fear of relocation

Tokyo, October 12: A volcano in Japan which erupted for the first time in six years continued to erupt till Thursday. It spread ash in nearby cities and towns of Southwestern Japan. As per local source, the plume is rising about 2,000 meters above the crater.

The footages from local channel showed school students were wearing helmets and masks when they were going to school. Local people heard the sound of crashes the volcano.

"We were hit by accommodation cancellations six years ago. I hope (the eruption) will not affect the autumn outing season," a local tourism official expressed his concern.

Japan Meteorological Agency forecast says the crater will continue to emit ash and potentially volcanic rocks through Friday. Depending on wind conditions and altitude the locations of risk will be declared.
