Darjeeling, October 13: Again fresh violence erupted in Darjeeling taking away life of Police ASI Amitavo Mallick. During a police, raid clash started between the Police force and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha. After getting some clue of GJM leader Bimal Gurung’s stay, police force started raiding Takvar forest. Then a group of people started firing at Police leading to police firing.

Along with police personnel, GJM supporters also got injured in the clashes. As per the local report, a team of police officers came under fire at Nimboo basti and adjoining forest areas. Hence police force also fired back. "We mourn the death of our brave heart," senior police officer Anuj Sharma commented on Amitavo Mallick’s death. A GJM supporter also lost his life.

Police are suspecting GJM supporters fired to make safe passage for their leader Bimal Gurung who is at hiding since a long time. Previously Police force got involved in a conflict with Sikkim Police for searching Gurung in Sikkim.

Police marched to Basrnsbeg Tea Garden in Takvar as per intelligence input. Later several weapons including automatic rifles have been seized from the spot.

On Wednesday, Bimal Gurung sent an audio message telling that he would appear in Darjeeling on 30th October asked people to turn out in large numbers to meet him. After lifting of the strike, Darjeeling was trying to return to normalcy but the fresh violence will again make local people scared.
