Indian cycling team bags 21 medals in Track Asia Cup

New Delhi, October 13: Indian contingent clinched a total of twenty-one medals including seven gold, nine silver and five bronze medals in the Track Asia Cup which concluded on Thursday at IGI Sports Complex, New Delhi. India topped the medal tally with 21 medals while China finished second and Indonesia secured third place.

 

On the finals day of the event, Indian team bagged four medals, including two silver and two bronze. India juniors Mayur Pawar and JK Ashwin secured silver and bronze respectively in Sprint event. Mayur clocked 11.045s with a speed of 65.188km/hr, while Ashwin finished in 11.098s with 64.877km/hr speed.

Later, on the day, Ranjit Singh added a silver to India’s tally after clinching the medal in Men Keirin event. The bronze medal of Women Elite Sprint event was won by P Nayana Rajesh with 11.940s. However, the biggest upset for India was when Deborah finished fifth in Keirin event, stood in the fifth position.


Importantly, Indian duo Deborah Herold and Aleena Reji have qualified for the UCI Track Cycling World Cup to be held at Manchester in England from 10th to 12th of next month. The pair obtained enough points to enter into the qualifying rounds of UCI Cycling World Cup events.
