Srinagar, October 14: Security forces on Saturday early morning gunned down two terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit during a fierce gun battle in Litter village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district. The slain terrorists are identified as Wasim Shah who was a top commander of Lashkar-e-Taiba terror outfit and his close associate Hafiz Nisar.

Notably, security forces eliminated Lashkar-e-Taiba top commander Wasim Shah and his close associate Hafiz Nisar during an encounter in Litter village of Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama district after getting a specific input from intelligence sources. Arms and ammunition including one AK-47, one AK-56 and six AK magazines with the body of slain terrorists were recovered from the spot. Wasim Shah and his associate Hafiz Nisar were active in the valley since 2014 and were involved in many cases and recruitment.

While addressing the media after the encounter, IG Munir Khan said, ”Operation was launched by Police, Army and CRPF after specific information was received about the presence of 2 LeT terrorists. Of the 2 terrorists, Wasim Shah was very notorious and his elimination was a big success as he used to recruit cadre for LeT.”

“Both the terrorists were first asked to surrender but instead they started firing, troops retaliated and gunned them down,” Khan added. Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir DGP SP Vaid said, “Wasim Shah was involved in many cases and recruitment, his elimination is a huge success for security forces.”

Importantly, this is the first counter-terrorism operation in Litter area in four years. Wasim Shah was the main architect of unrest last year in south Kashmir. Jammu and Kashmir police have been tracking the movements of Shah in South Kashmir’s Shopian district but Shah found a hideout at Litter. According to the sources, Amir Shah and his team were planning an attack on the security forces.

On the other side, one day earlier, security forces arrested Gulzar Dar who belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit from the Pastuna forest area of Tral in Pulwama district. The arrest came after the security forces this morning launched a cordon and search operation in the forest area suspecting the presence of terrorists there. While four days back, three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists were killed when a cordon and search operation turned into an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian.

Interestingly, curbing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is the topmost agenda of Indian security forces. Therefore, Anti-Terrorism operation is continued with such a speed that at least 165 terrorists are eliminated by Indian troops in a time period of only 10 months.
