The historic Toy train of Darjeeling again starts running after a huge loss in ongoing agitation

Siliguri, October 16: Due to ongoing violence, agitation in the hill area of Darjeeling, the famous Toy Train service got stopped. The indefinite shutdown stopped many other services in the region. Though the resumption of service is partial tourism industry expressed their happiness over it.

The demand for Gorkhaland which dates back to old time again revived since June 2017. Following violent agitations Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, the main agitator party declared an indefinite shutdown. So the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway had stopped toy train services on June 12.

Despite all prevailing problems, the hill area is trying to return normalcy. This resumption of Toy Train service from Siliguri to Sukna can be viewed as one of those attempts. Currently, the service will be also restricted for particular time limits./DHR claimed loss of 3 crore due to this problem.

"We have started the service for the first time since the agitation just to send the message that tourists and common people can again enjoy the historic toy train ride from Siliguri," said N.K. Narzary, the DHR director.

The first journey of Toy Train after June started on Sunday. "We operated with two coaches and one diesel engine. We will inform all railway stations across the country that toy train rides have resumed. Once the number of passengers increases, we will add coaches," Nazary added.
