Sinai, October 16: Egypt will not open the Rafah border as soldiers lost their lives in attacks on military outposts in North Sinai. The attackers used car bombs and rocket-propelled grenades (RPG). As per local sources about 20 members of the security forces had also been injured. Islamic state claimed responsibility for the attacks.

Six outposts in and around the town of Sheikh Zweid were targeted. "Our security forces continued to sweep the area, confirming their continued efforts to eliminate terrorist elements," an Army statement said.

Following the attack, Egypt announced on Sunday evening that it would not be reopening the Rafah border crossing with Gaza Egypt which was supposed to be reopened between Monday and Thursday. The crossing was temporarily opened sometimes but it was closed since a terrorist attack in the Sinai Peninsula in October 2014.

Egypt is fighting a militant insurgency since 2013. Recently a number of attacks have taken away many fresh lives in the country.
