Selena Selvakumar shines in 2017 Egypt Junior and Cadet Open; bags 3 gold in all categories

Sharm El-Sheikh, October 16: India’s Selena Selvakumar emerged as the most successful player at the 2017 Egypt Junior and Cadet Open which was held in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt and clinched three gold medals in women single, double and team category respectively.

 

The second of the tournament i.e on Sunday, Selena Selvakumar bagged the Junior Girls’ Doubles and Junior Girls’ Singles titles after defeating her opponents comprehensively. In the finals of Junior Girls’ Doubles category, India's young paddler Selena Selvakumar and her Nigerian partner Esther Orabimese defeated Farida Badawy and Malamatenia Papadimitriou by 11-8, 14-12, 9-11, 8-11, 11-8.

While in the finals of Junior Girls’ Singles category, Selena Selvakumar registered a comprehensive victory over Marwa Alhodaby by 11-5, 14-12, 8-11, 6-11, 11-3, 6-11, 11-4. Though, it was a tough match Selena but kept her nerves under control and created a history after winning the Gold in the singles category.

 

Earlier, in the tournament, Selena Selvakumar put up an impressive show in the Junior Girls' Team event to clinch the 2017 Egypt Junior and Cadet Table-Tennis Open title. Selena remained unbeaten in all the format of the tournament and created an unblemished record. Interestingly, success for Selena Selvakumar, most certainly hard-earned, on the concluding day of play she had been involved in four matches, all four had gone the full distance; most significantly, she had won all four.
