Seoul, October 16: Amid North Korea tension in Korean Peninsula South Korea has decided to develop its own counter-rocket system. Defense agency of the country has been working on core technologies as the country lack the proper military infrastructure to counter the North Korean threat. The military decided to develop own system instead of buying Israel's Iron Dome system.

The country wants to develop an effective system against a massive attack using long-range rockets. They are trying to develop a system based on "hit-to-kill" platform. The measure comes at a time when the concern of how to handle threats from the North's border artillery targeting Seoul and its surrounding areas is growing.

"We are considering deploying the interceptor system to counter the enemy's volley of rocket attacks targeting our key military installations such as the wartime command headquarters and facilities for the Korea Air and Missile Defense system," Seoul's Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said in a report.

"We are making all-out efforts to transform our military into a high-morale force that outfights (its adversaries) and is trusted by citizens through sweeping defense reforms," JCS chairman Jeong said earlier.

Recently South Korea has started joint drills with Washington. About 40 vessels, including the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, are taking part in the joint drills. North Korea can take any drastic step against the joint drill as it is assumed. The high mounting tension and constant threats of North Korea are making the surrounding countries more worried.
