Srinagar, October 16: Jammu and Kashmir police have busted a terror module and arrested three terrorists in last three days from Kulgam district of the valley. The two terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and one from the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit. Heavy arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday confirmed that the three terrorists including two from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and one from the Hizbul Mujahideen were arrested over the past three days from south Kashmir.

Addressing the media with officials of the Army and the CRPF, Inspector General of Police Munir Khan said, "On 14 October, two terrorists with the intention to snatch weapons of personal security guards of a protected person fired few rounds at Kund in Qazigund area. But they had to beat a retreat due to hue and cry raised by locals."

He further noted that based on specific information a joint party of the police, the army and the CRPF established a checkpoint and arrested the two terrorists, who were riding a motorcycle. "They were identified as Khursheed Ahmad Dar and Haziq Rather. One pistol, some ammunition and a live grenade were recovered from their possession. They belong to LeT," he added.

The IGP said an overground worker of terrorists, Rameez Yatoo who belongs to Hizbul outfit was arrested from Kulgam on Friday. “Rameez Yatoo who works in a medical agency in Kulgam had helped the terrorists in carrying out the attack on the police vehicle at Damhal Hanjipura on Saturday in which one cop lost his life," officer Khan noted.

On this occasion, the IGP appealed that local terrorists should surrender immediately and start living a normal life. He said that surrender by local terrorists will be accepted even if these are made during gun battles with security forces. IGP Munir Khan, in the end, reiterated full support from security forces to such terrorists who lay down their arms.

Answering questions on braid chopping incidents in the Kashmir Valley, Khan said scientific evidence was being collected but added that people "generally do not cooperate with the police during the investigations of these incidents". He vehemently denied that anyone from the police or any other security force was involved in the braid chopping incidents.

Earlier, in the month of September this year, Jammu and Kashmir police arrested Gulzar Ahmad Dar who had hurled a grenade immediately after the cavalcade of the Roads and Buildings Minister passed through Tral.
