The “one-woman WikiLeaks” Daphne Caruana Galizia silenced by car bomb

Valletta, October 17: The brave words of world-famous investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia have been silenced. This is not the first time, the world has seen silencing a brave soul several times. The 53-year journalist died when the car she was driving exploded in Bidnija. Her last blog was published about a half-hour earlier. Her investigations always focused on corruption. She covered her country's links with to offshore tax havens through the leaked Panama Papers.

She was recently described as “one-woman WikiLeaks”. Her blogs had unearthed corruption of both the establishment and underworld figure. Malta’s Prime Minister, Joseph Muscat, and two of his closest aides was indirectly pointed in her recent blogs. She was a harsh critic of Malta’s Prime minister.

“In these moments, when the country is shocked by such a vicious attack, I call on everyone to measure their words, to not pass judgment and to show solidarity,” Malta’s president, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca said.

Many analysts inside and outside the country are describing the incident as a “political murder”. It has been told several times that rule of law in the country has been declining over time. Local media reported the Journalist complained to police of receiving death threats.
