Abuja, October 17: Communal violence in central Nigeria has taken away over 20 lives. A long-run battle over grazing rights has been disturbing the area in Plateau state. As per local reports, the victims were hacked to death in a classroom. Fulani herdsmen are suspected of this violent mass killing.

“Twenty-seven out of the 29 people were buried in one grave. We later found two other dead bodies. It is worrisome because the 27 people already buried were murdered in a classroom, given security cover by soldiers, where they supposedly sought refuge,” the President, Irigwe Development Association, Sunday Abdu, said.

The Nigerian President has described this as “madness” which has gone so far needs an instant end to it. The military and the police have been instructed to make plans to prevent recurrence of violence. He wants it to be ensured that there are no further attacks and reprisal attacks by one group against the other.

"President Muhammadu Buhari has received with deep sadness and regret news of the recent killings of at least 20 people in Plateau state, during what has been described as a reprisal attack by some herdsmen," an official statement said.
