Luxembourg, October 17: International communities are uniting together to handle increasing North Korean threat. To make the country economically weaker the European Union slapped it with fresh sanctions. It banned the sale of oil and oil products to North Korea on Monday. This measure is symbolically very significant as it shows increasing unity against a nuclear threat.

The reason of new measures has been cited as “the persistent threat to international peace and stability” posed by Pyongyang. The sanction has special “economic measures” targeting business of North Korea. It also includes a ban on investments in the recluse country.

The new measures leave North Korean workers in EU also in a worse condition. They can spend less money to home and if their work visa expires it cannot be renewed. 41 individuals and 10 companies also got targeted by the new package of sanctions. Foreign ministers meeting in Luxembourg signed off the new sanctions.

Last time when UN came up with sanctions North Korea denied accepting it by firing another nuclear test. Significantly, North Korean officials have rejected a proposal to hold direct talks with their South Korean counterparts in St Petersburg which was an initiative by Russia.
