#AyurvedaDay: PM Modi dedicates 1st Ayurveda institute to nation

New Delhi, October 17: On the occasion of 2nd Ayurveda Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated the first ever All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA), modeled after All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). 

While speaking at the inauguration event, PM Modi called for strengthening Ayurveda for improving the overall wellness in the society.

The Prime Minister also said that the government was working on having a full-fledged Ayurveda-related hospital in each and every district of the country. He also highlighted the benefits of healthcare measures as propounded by Ayurveda. He said his government was focusing on bringing in preventive affordable measures to improve the healthcare system.

He also called for a ‘health revolution’ on the lines of the IT revolution. He urged private players to use corporate social responsibility funds to strengthen Ayurveda.

“Investors should also come forward for Yoga and Ayurveda. Prime Minister said, Ayurveda system should be expanded, in the fields like sports. He said, Cleanliness is crucial to strengthen preventive healthcare.”

On the occasion, the Prime Minister also gave away the Yoga Award to the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, Pune. Prime Minister also released the Ayurvedic Standard Treatment Guidelines developed by the AYUSH Ministry.

The AIIA will be the apex Ayurveda institute under the Ministry of AYUSH, and will bring in the synergy between traditional wisdom of Ayurveda and modern diagnostic tools and technology. It is the first medical institute under the AYUSH ministry to hold the coveted National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation.

In its first phase, the institute has been set up in a total campus area of 10.015 acres with a budget of Rs 157 crore. PM Modi said that there should be a Ayurveda hospital in every district.
