At least 6,900 Indian peacekeepers working for various missions of UN in conflict-ridden countries

New Delhi, October 18: The main agenda and workflow of Indian security forces are to maintain peace and law and order in the country. The valour of Indian Army is too recognized by the whole world. Notably, as many as 6,900 personnel of Indian forces are serving as United Nations peacekeepers in various missions in many countries including Sudan, Congo etc.

 

6,900 military personnel of Indian security forces among 1,15,000 peacekeepers are serving in many countries including Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Haiti, Lebanon, Liberia, the Middle East, South Sudan, Sudan and the Western Sahara with an aim to maintain peace, law and order.

Recently, as many as fifty Indian peacekeepers who are stationed in South Sudan have been awarded the UN Medal for their professionalism and service in protecting civilians and building a durable peace in the conflict-ridden country.

So far, about 168 Indian troops have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty under the UN flag. Unfortunately, 117 troopers of 168 from around the world lost their lives in the year 2016. Interestingly, India is the largest cumulative troop contributor, having provided at least 1,80,000 troops in nearly 50 of the 71 peacekeeping missions mandated over the past six decades, including 13 of the current 16 missions.
