Moscow, October 18: The UK newspaper The Times recently published an article where it clearly held Russia responsible for funding Taliban military operations in Afghanistan. After publishing the report where they claimed members of the Islamist group and Afghan officials passed the information, was re-published by several other media globally. After observing such reports, Russia published an official statement bashing out against UK media for spreading “fake” news.
“We recommend The Times journalists take note of the continued flights by unmarked helicopters to the Afghan regions controlled by extremists, whom British intelligence services are supporting, according to the Afghans themselves, as well as the growing number of civilian casualties in Afghanistan this year due, in part, to the international coalition’s unwillingness to learn the lesson of previous conflicts and its reliance on military force,” the statement read.
Russia has re-affirmed its position of not supporting Taliban. The country has been pursuing a consistent assistance to the Government Afghanistan to develop the country “as a peaceful, independent, stable and economically viable state free of terrorism and drugs.”
Moscow has become so offended that it decided to publish the article from The Times on the Foreign Ministry’s website in the section titled “Published materials that contain false information about Russia”.
