Wildfire Death toll reaches 41 in Portugal, 4 in Spain

Lisbon, October 18: The Portugal wildfires have increased the death toll to 41 from 39 on Tuesday while the number of death toll has also increased in Spain by one death. The biggest 15 fires which were blazing through the center and the north of the country had been brought under control said the Portugal's civil protection agency on Tuesday.

 

According to the local media, 41 people have lost their and 71 were injured in the fire of which 16 are in serious condition. And one person was still missing. The conditions across the border in Galicia, Spain's westernmost province is now under control as the officials said that the alerts level have been lowered after the early morning rain and also the winds have slowed down which resulted in the halt of flames but the death toll rose to four.

The local media stated that Most of the victims were killed in their cars, but we also found them inside their houses said Jose Carlos Alexandrino, mayor of Oliveira do Hospital near Coimbra. On Wednesday morning President António Costa visited Coimbra and said that a word of solidarity with all the victims of the fires and the dedication of all healthcare professionals.

As the country began three days of mourning for the victims, India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi also paid condolence for the victims affected by the wildfire he said that sad to learn of the tragic loss of lives in the forest fire in Portugal.
