Vladivostok, October 20: The historic tri-service exercise between India and Russia started on Friday. The official opening ceremony took place in Vladivostok. The exercise involves the Army, Air Force and Navy of India and Russia. It indicates a closer tie between two country’s defense force.

Indian Naval ships INS Satpura and INS Kadmatt entered Russia’s Vladivostok Port to participate in the first tri-service bilateral exercise between India and Russia. Indian contingent of Army and Air Force personnel also reached Vladivostok. The drills’ official opening ceremony will be held on Friday.

Making the participants happy, they were given a traditional ceremonial welcome. Major General ND Prasad thanked the Mayor for the extremely warm welcome accorded to the Indian contingent and expressed the hope that the exercise would lead to increased mutual cooperation between the two countries.

Whereas the whole country is celebrating Diwali, the troops were getting ready on a totally different land to make the defense of the country stronger. But they sought their own way of celebrations, even in a far land. Lt Gen JS Negi, Tri-Services Observer Delegation Leader distributed sweets to Indian troops and their counterparts in Russia.

INDRA is not a new bi-lateral exercise, it started in 2013. But the distinct feature of INDRA-2017 is that Exercise has been upgraded to involve all the three Services of the Armed Forces (Army, Navy & Air Force). Exercise INDRA-2017 will be conducted at the 249th Combined Army Range Sergeevisky and in the Sea of Japan near Vladivostok.
