Kolkata, October 23: The evil of Dengue has been tormenting Bengal capital Kolkata for a long time. But the administration is constantly trying to deny any increase in the number of Dengue patients. Specialists have questioned often the process of dengue detection only based on platelet count, carried on by Kolkata Municipal election. Even the problem has become so severe; the complaints of patients getting hit by dengue in Government hospitals are coming up.

Every day dengue reports are coming up but the government is busy to define dengue rather than treating the patients. Doctors are denying writing dengue as the cause of death in death certificates. Hence the attempt to suppress the number of Dengue patients is becoming a more harmful trend for patients. Whereas there are several dengue patients in every neighborhood, the Chief Minister of Bengal Mamata Banerjee who is also the in-charge of health ministry stated the number of Dengue patients was 14 across the state. Rather than taking any measure, she blamed private pathologies for creating panic.

The government hospitals don't have enough mosquito-nets. Hence from infected patients, other patients suffering from a completely different disease getting attacked by dengue. Still, the administration continues to deny the fact. Even doctors are sometimes being forced to not register dengue cases.

Against this backdrop, this is ironic that the demand for ELISA kit to detect Dengue has gone down from the government hospital and civic bodies. "Government hospitals and civic health officials are telling us that there are not many dengue cases this year, so there is no need to place bulk order for the kits. Private hospitals, however, are buying as many kits as they did last year," a local newspaper quoted an official of the supplier on condition of anonymity.
