New Delhi, October 23: An inspection on the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) by the government resulted in that the institutes lacked required infrastructure and also the trainers for the vocational training which led to de-affiliating about 400 ITIs in the country.

Joint Secretary of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Ministry, Rajesh Agarwal said that certain minimum conditions are needed to be followed if any institute has to become an ITI at the National Council for Vocational Training level. He further added that to maintain the quality standards the skill development ministry has begun monitoring the ITIs and also introduced voluntary self-grading by the institutes.

Administered by ITIs, the government’s vocational training programmes cater about 36 percent of the 7 million people enrolled in various training programmes in India.

The National Council for Vocational Training was set up by the Government of India in 1956. The Council has been entrusted with the responsibilities of prescribing standards and curricula for craftsmen training, advising the Government of India on the overall policy and programmes, conducting All India Trade Tests and awarding National Trade Certificates.
