Geneva, October 23: The Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe who has been already hit by several controversies inside his country was named as the goodwill ambassador. The announcement created outrage among a large group of people on his appointment. Following the outrage, World Health Organization (WHO) has decided to rescind the appointment.

“Over the last few days, I have reflected on my appointment of H.E. President Robert Mugabe as WHO Goodwill Ambassador for NCDs in Africa. As a result, I have decided to rescind the appointment,” WHO director general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said in an official statement.

To not create any controversy within WHO, Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Walter Muzembi also welcomed the move. "So on the balance, it is wiser to let go, and help WHO focus on its mandate while we focus Zimbabwe on its membership obligations," Muzembi said.

Mugabe is blamed for several human right cases of abuse in the country and moreover ruining Zimbabwe economy. He is even held responsible for ruining own country's health system. The leader himself travels abroad for treatment. That is why many people expressed anger over his appointment in the honorable post. Countries like UK and Us clearly expressed their disappointment.

“I have also consulted with the Government of Zimbabwe and we have concluded that this decision is in the best interests of the World Health Organization,” WHO director general said.
