807 candidates file nomination for 1st phase of Nepal Parliamentary, Assembly Elections

Kathmandu, October 23: In Nepal, a total of 807 candidates have filed nominations for the first phase of Parliamentary and Assembly elections. The candidates can withdraw their names till Wednesday. 

According to the Joint Election Operation Centre (JEOC) at the Election Commission of Nepal, of the total 807 persons filing candidacies, 323 have registered their candidacy for the House of Representatives election and 484 for the State Assembly elections.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed the time from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm today to file complaints against the candidates, the Election Commission spokesman Nawaraj Dhakal said.

The complaints would be looked into the list of candidates published on October 24. Similarly, the EC will allocate election symbols to the candidates after the conclusion of withdrawing their names by the candidates, if they wish to do so.

Polling for the first phase will be held in 32 districts on the 26th of next month. Nominations in the remaining 45 districts will be filed on 2nd November and voting for second and final round will take place on December 7th.

Nepal, which was declared a republic nation in 2008, have got two presidents till now - Dr. Rambaran Yadav as the first president and the chairing president Bidhya Devi Bhandari as the second and the first female president of Nepal.

As per the new bill a total of 884 voters, 275 from the House of Representatives, 59 from the National Assembly and 550 members from the Provincial Council will vote to elect the new state and deputy state heads.
