Tokyo, October 24: Tokyo, the host of next Olympic games us trying to adopt several plans for a better environment. Now it is planning of a carbon dioxide emission free Tokyo during the opening and closing days of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics. Tokyo governor announced the plan.

Through the cap-and-trade program for big companies, Tokyo will counterbalance CO2 emission during those four days. The CO2 emissions from Tokyo during the four days are seen totaling 720,000 tons. With the project, Tokyo wants to show its commitment towards the goal of a sustainable city. A zero-carbon city runs entirely on renewable energy; it has no carbon footprint and will in this respect not cause harm to the planet.

Tokyo governor announced this during a meeting of C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group. The C40 Large Cities Climate Leadership Group comprises 40 of the largest cities in the five continents of the world. The Tokyo Metropolitan Government became a member of this network in December 2006, with the aim to learn from the best practices of the world's cities in reducing emissions.
