Kolkata, October 26: Fake doctor scam shook Bengal Capital Kolkata few months ago. A number of doctors were caught for using fake registration or fake certificates, even the list included many experienced “doctors”. Hence to save citizens from fake doctors, state CID will soon launch a mobile app. It will help people to catch fake doctors by checking registration number.

To start this initiative soon, CID is working jointly with the West Bengal Medical Council. After arresting more than 20 fake doctors, the situation became alarming. The app will help to cross-check the existing registration number with the database of registered doctors in the state.

"The idea is to make people aware of fake doctors... we want people to know who is a genuine doctor and who is a fake," Rajesh Kumar, additional director general of police (CID), told.

Using the app, people can report a person with suspicious credentials. They can even upload visual evidence such as a prescription. But after launching a complaint on the app, an official complaint has to be given in writing.
