Gujarat ATS nabs two suspected ISIS operatives planning to execute terror attack in Ahmedabad

Gandhinagar, October 26: Islamic State or IS or ISIS, the most dangerous and lethal terrorist group though has lost its many strongholds in Middle-East countries is trying to gain control in India. Hours after the Indian Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for Assembly elections in Gujarat two suspected ISIS operatives were arrested from Surat who was planning to execute a terror plot in Ahmedabad.

 

Notably, Gujarat Anti Terrorist Squad arrested two suspected ISIS operatives from Surat who were planning to execute a terror plot in Ahmedabad during the state assembly polls. The Gujarat ATS after arresting both the operatives claimed that they were plotting an attack on a Jewish synagogue in Khadia area of Ahmedabad in very near future.

The two suspects arrested have been identified as Mohammad Kasim Stimberwala and Ubed Ahmed Mirza. While Stimberwala used to work as a laboratory technician with a hospital in Ankleshwar town, Mirza is a practicing lawyer with the Surat district court and also owns a hotel there. Kasim was planning to abscond to Jamaica after executing the blast.

ATS officials have arrested the two suspects under IPC sections 120-A (criminal conspiracy), 121-A (waging or attempt to wage war against Government of India) and 125 (Waging war against any Asiatic power in alliance with Government of India) of the IPC, besides under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA).

According to the sources, Srimberwala and Mirza are radicalized by the fundamental ideology of the ISIS for the last many years and were actively planning to cause terrorist acts. Meanwhile, security across Gujarat has been intensified looking upon further threats.

Interestingly, assembly elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 9 and 14. The first phase will be held in 89 of the 182 seats and will cover 19 of 33 districts. The votes will be counted on December 18, the same day as Himachal Pradesh.
