About 3150 hectares of forest land approved for construction of Kaleswaram project

Hyderabad, October 26: The forest land of about 3,150 hectares have been approved for construction of Kaleswaram project stage-one by the Environment Ministry. The diversion of the allotted land will be through eight forest divisions from Mahadevpur it will go move Karimnagar-Sircilla, Siddipet, Yadadri, Medak, Nizamabad, Banswada and lastly to Nirmal.

 

In different districts of Telangana, the construction of canals, tunnels, lift systems, surge pool, delivery cisterns, and reservoirs will be will be set up as per the proposed project. The cost of the project is over 13,000 crore rupees which will be used to irrigate around 45,000 hectares and this Telangana government proposed Kaleswaram lift irrigation project will provide drinking water to over 64 villages. This project will be started across the Godavari River near Kaleswaram in Karimnagar district.

With the provisions of the Forest (Conservation) Act, 1980 the state government has to compensate the afforest the non-forest land equal to the forest land within a period of three years from the date of receipt of the stage-2 forest clearance.

The Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme is essentially aimed at the development of drought-prone, upland and backward areas of Telangana Region to provide irrigation facilities in Karimnagar district. This lift scheme contemplated as a multi-purpose project. It irrigates about 45,000 acres and provides drinking water facility.About 64 villages get benefited by this project with no interstate aspects involved in the project.
