Indo-Swiss Training Centre to provide skilled manpower for Punjab industries

Chandigarh, October 26: Punjab government under the leadership of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh has geared up well to boost the economy of the state, employment and infrastructural development. Therefore, with an aim to provide skilled manpower to the industries Punjab government on Thursday joined hands with the Indo-Swiss Training Centre (ISTC)–Central Scientific Instruments.

 

Notably, the Punjab Skill Development Mission (PSDM) has signed an MOU with the Indo-Swiss Training Centre (ISTC)–Central Scientific Instruments for providing skilled manpower to the Industry. The MoU was signed by Bhawna Garg, IAS, Mission Director-cum-Member Secretary, PSDM, Chandigarh and Prof. R.K. Sinha, Director- CSIR-CSIO, Chandigarh.

Under the MoU, the ISTC, an established brand name in the field skill education shall be imparting skill-oriented courses framed under Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) for the youth of Punjab with financial support from PSDM.

On this occasion, Bhawna Garg expressed that there is a huge demand for skilled manpower by the industry in Punjab and the MoU shall be fruitful for generating the required skilled manpower for the industry.

While Prof. R.K. Sinha briefed about the ongoing research activities at CSIR-CSIO and Skill-based education model followed by ISTC-CSIO. He also briefed about the facilities and strength of ISTC for conducting the skill-based training programs of various sector skill councils (SSC’s) formed by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) which is forum under Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.

Earlier, Capt Amarinder Singh-led Punjab government announced a new industrial and business development policy, paving way for fixing of industrial power tariff at Rs 5 per unit which is now Rs 8 per unit and a one-time settlement of industrial loans. This massive decision was taken by Punjab government with an aim to revive economic and industrial activity in the state.
