Riyadh, October 27: Saudi Arabia granted citizenship to a robot this week and became the first country to give such citizenship. A country where women’s rights are very restricted there the woman robot known as Sophia got more rights than that of human women. She has also made another record by getting passport after citizenship.

Sophia, artificially intelligent non human woman, attracted mass by her first appearance with female features that can make facial expressions.

“We want the main robot and the first robot in Neom to be Neom, robot number one,” the crown prince said in Riyadh. “Everything will have a link with artificial intelligence, with the Internet of Things—everything.”

Introduction of Sophia has taken Saudi Arabia’s vision 2030 a step ahead as she is an indication of Saudi Arabia’s plan to include more and more robots than humans at the mega NEOM project that will see the kingdom build a new city powered by solar and wind energy. The aim of the project is to make Saudi Arabia's economy more independent of oil.

“I am very honored and proud for this unique distinction,” the robot said onstage during economic summit in country’s capital this week. “This is historical to be the first robot in the world to be recognized with a citizenship” She said.

Rapidly after, social media users criticized Sophia as in Saudi Arabia women are not allowed to take key decision without consent of their male guardians. The non human woman appeared onstage without an abaya, a head covering and cloak normally required of women by the Saudi government.
