Nation’s first Center of Excellence for Football to be set up in Kolkata

Kolkata, October 28: FIFA U-17 World Cup has shown the whole world India’s enthusiasm for Football. It has broken the myth that India is a Cricket oriented nation in the field of sports. Hence witnessing the success of All India Football Federation (AIFF) president Praful Patel announced the setting up of a Centre of Excellence (COE) in two years' time. Following the decision, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee offered 15 acres of land on Friday and later the proposal was accepted.

For hosting the Fifa Final in Kolkata, Bengal CM thanked FIFA president Gianni Infantino. AIFF President Patel also thanked Fifa President for hosting FIFA council meeting here. “I am happy with how the World Cup has been perceived by the population here,” FIFA head said earlier.

Bengal CM also assured if FIFA hosts U-20 tournament here. FIFA president expressed his happiness over Bengal CM’s hospitality. He told if the entire nation shows such enthusiasm for Football, India will acquire a permanent place in World Football map.

As soon as AIFF will get the land, they will start the work. The facility will house all the national men and women age group and senior national teams. The estimated time of the work is 2 years.
