Olympic fever grasps Tokyo; people gather to mark 1000 days countdown

Tokyo, October 28: Japan capital Tokyo is beaming with the excitement of Olympics 2020 as only 1000 days are left for the grand event. With countdown events enthusiast people marked 1,000 days to go until the opening ceremony of the 2020 Olympics. The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government jointly hosted Tokyo 2020 Olympic Countdown.

This Olympics will feature a record 33 sports and 339 events. Las time Tokyo hosted the Olympics in 1964. In Tokyo’s Nihombashi district people gathered to mark the countdown. The bronze winner in the women's 48-kilogram category at last year's Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Hiromi Miyake hosted a talk show. A commemorative event was held at Narita airport.

Sports with which people are not familiar with such as fencing and wrestling were introduced through a short video. Athletes have demonstrated skateboarding, BMX, 3*3. Through virtual reality, the audience experienced surfing and wheelchair athletics. Five colors of Olympic ring blue, yellow, black, green and red enlightened city’s famous Tokyo Tower.

The main venue of 2020 games, the new National Stadium in Shinjuku Ward is still under construction. The construction work of the stadium aimed to house 60,000 people together started last year December. Now the tasks of installing seats are going on.
