Lucknow, October 28: Uttar Pradesh Government declared Mathura’s Vrindavan and Barsana as the sacred Pilgrimage sites yesterday. But before declaring these cities of Mathura as ‘Teerth Sthal’ the state government decided to put ban on selling meat, liquor and even eggs in these sites.

As Vrindavan and Barsana are connected with Hindu god Krishna and lakhs of devotees come here to pay curtsy. To maintain the dignity of these sites this ban has been imposed. Terming the places pure, the government said that special attention will be given to these areas for development of facilities for locals and tourists. UP wants to develop all the religious places as tourist’s destination in the state.

UP govt. recently clubbed Vrindavan, a former nagar palika parishad, with the Mathura municipal board to create Mathura Nagar Nigam and also Barsana is a Nagar Panchayat. Both will go to polls next month.

The departments related to this decision of ban – Urban development, food and drug, excise and general administration – have been given orders to implement the ban within 3 months.

This announcement was made by the state's minister for religious affairs and culture, Laxmi Narayan Chaudhary in Mathura yesterday. “Central govt. has approved Rs. 350 Cr. for Yamuna cleaning and for laying sewage lines in holy towns” he said.

This whole exercise of Yogi Adityanath is being seen as a step in the direction of tourism in Uttar Pradesh, and especially in promoting religious places.
