Deadly car bomb blast in Syria's capital Damascus kills 11 people including one policeman

Damascus, October 3: At least 11 people were killed while a dozen others injured in a car bomb blast that took place at a police station in Syria's capital Damascus on Monday. Notably, a car bomb exploded near a police station in Damascus' al-Midan on Monday that killed 11 people including a police officer.

 

As soon as this horrific incident took place, many ambulances rushed to the site. According to the official sources, the death toll may increase as few are in critical condition. There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

However, Syrian local TV channels blamed two suicide bombers while the pro-government Al Mayadeen TV channel said four fighters carried out the attack, killing more than 10 people. The Interior Minister of Syria Mohammad al-Shaar said the fighters targeted the police station in al-Midan and clashed with police officers there. One attacker blew himself up at the main entrance, and another detonated his explosive device on the first floor, he added.

Meanwhile, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said September was the deadliest month of the conflict this year, with at least 3,000 people, including 955 civilians, killed. "More than 70 percent of the civilians were killed in the regime and Russian air raids, or in air raids of the international coalition" battling ISIL, also known as ISIS,” SOHR added.

Interestingly, Syria's conflict has killed more than 330,000 people and displaced millions since it broke out in 2011 with a crackdown on anti-government protests before evolving into a complex war drawing in world powers.
