Philippines President Duterte starts his two-day long Japan visit

Tokyo, October 30: Amid tension in Pacific region, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has started his two day Japan visit. He will meet both the Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Emperor Akihito. Ahead of his Japan visit said someone should talk to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. After Shinzo Abe’s historical victory, Duterte is the first leader to visit Japan.

Japan is keen to assist the Philippines in its developmental issues as a good tie will help to counter China. "Japan has advanced the news that they will help in rebuilding Marawi," Duterte said. "I think the damage alone and the dimension of the destruction, we would tell Japan,” he said. Marawi, a city in Mindanao was captured by IS and the country got back it after a 5month f battle. Along with economic issues, the two countries are expected to discuss peace and stability in the region.

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Kano said he expects to establish cooperation between the Philippines and Japan in areas such as infrastructure development, the Mindanao peace process, the anti-illegal drugs campaign and security and counter-terrorism measures.
