Top Cop Yogesh Chander Modi assumes the office of NIA

New Delhi: Yogesh Chander Modi, a top cop who was the key member in Supreme Court-monitored team for cases related to the 2002 Gujarat riots is all set to lead the apex counter-terror probe agency NIA. A 1984 batch IPS officer of Assam-Meghalaya cadre today took the charge from his predecessor Sharad Kumar.

According to Department of Personnel and Training, Modi has been appointed for the tenure of four years which will end on May 31, 2021. He was named as NIA head on September 18. Sharad Kumar was appointed NIA chief on August 5, 2013.

 

The senior Cop has a wide experience of handling special crime and economic offenses where he had teamed up with Central Bureau of Investigation for 10 years. In 2001 he was selected for the Police Medal for Meritorious Service and later in 2008 Modi bagged President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.
