Moscow, October 30: The long-term conflict among Russia and the European Union regarding Nord-Stream 2 is not going to end soon. Russia is not at all interested to negotiate with the EU on the Nord Stream-2. Despite various Russia does not want EU interference in the issue as this area is out of EU’s competence.

"We do not need such negotiations, and they know about it. Nord Stream-2 is an underwater gas pipeline running through neutral waters. The European Commission is a regulator only on the territory of the EU and does not have any extraterritorial rights. The gas pipeline is beyond its competence," the Russian diplomat, Vladimir Chizhov said.

Russia views it as a commercial project which is not at all based on an intergovernmental document. Hence Russia is ready to talk to EU but not ready for any kind of negotiation. But EU wants to apply the terms of the EU's Third Energy Package to Nord Stream 2 as it wants an agreement with Russia in line with "international and European energy standards."

Nord Stream is an offshore natural gas pipeline from Vyborg in the Russian Federation to Greifswald in Germany that is owned and operated by Nord Stream AG. The second one will double the capacity of the first stretch following the first route.
