Mumbai, October 30: In a circular issued by the Maharashtra government it came in a notification that teachers of state/ BMC run schools will not conduct private tuitions. The state government issued a circular to all aided (state/ BMC-run) schools, directing their teachers to sign a bond giving an undertaking to the schools’ principals that they should not conduct private tuitions.

This decision came to prevent malpractices, including question paper leaks, dissemination of confidential information and revealing of probable questions that have surfaced over the last few years.

Earlier in 2012, the Supreme Court had said that all the schools, except the unaided minority institutions, will be prohibited from giving private tutorials. The same pattern was followed by the state government, however, this government resolution (GR) is only restricted to aided-schools or the state board schools.

The GR says that an aided-school teacher will have to submit an undertaking to the Principal of the schools, which will say that they won’t give any kind of ‘private coaching’ to the students. However, the GR does not mention whether the students should be of the same school as the teacher, or any other independent coaching classes.
