Srinagar, October 30: A policeman was killed on Sunday during a gunfight between security forces and militants as protests by stone pelters helped the guerrillas to escape in Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

Notably, based on the specific information from the sources, the Indian Army along with 45 Bn Central Reserve Police Force, the Special Operations Group and 13 Rashtriya Rifles carried out a joint operation. The security forces fired tear smoke shells to disperse the protesters, who kept on regrouping to continue the stone pelting.

As the gunfight between the hidden militants, believed to be three in number, and the security forces raged, dozens of youths resorted to heavy stone pelting at security personnel to disrupt the operation against the rebels.

The martyred policeman was a member of the police’s special operations group. He succumbed to his injuries at an Army base hospital in Srinagar. However, in last week, Jammu and Kashmir police arrested a terrorist named Arizoo Bashir who belonged to Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Earlier on October 12, a Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist Waseem Shah was killed along with his close aide in an encounter. Shah, 23, also known as ‘Abu Osama Bhai’ was killed at Litter area in Pulwama, a place considered to be a safe haven for terrorists.

Interestingly, curbing terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir is the topmost agenda of Indian security forces. Therefore, Anti-Terrorism operation is continued with such a speed that at least 175 terrorists are eliminated by Indian troops in a time period of only 10 months.
