New Delhi, Oct 31: Observing the major violation of National Sports Code in the election of Asian Football Confederation, the Delhi High Court today canceled the appointment of incumbent AIFF Chief Praful Patel.

Taking a serious note of the irregularities involved in AIFF election, the court has appointed former Chief Election Commissioner SY Quraishi to take the charge as administrator of the federation and asked concern authorities to conduct fresh elections within five months.

The ruling came on a petition by advocate Rahul Mehra where he questioned the procedure followed by the Confederation. Former Civil Aviation Minister and senior NCP leader Praful Patel was nominated as the south Asian vice-presidential representative to AFC in 2015 and later took the charge of vice-president.
