Himachal Elections: Prem Kumar Dhumal is BJP’s CM candidate

Kangra, Oct 31: Clearing the dust over the BJP’s Chief Ministerial Candidate, Party President Amit Shah announced that senior Himachal BJP leader and former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal would lead the party in the prestigious Himachal Pradesh elections.




Addressing the mammoth rally Shah made the formal announcement about the new role of Dhumal. Expressing happiness over the unexpected development the two-time Chief Minister thanked Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the new responsibility.




Dhumal had assumed the office of Chief Minister from March 1998 to March 2003, and again from January 2008 to 25 December 2012.

Considered to be a close aide of Prime Minister Modi, 73-year-old Dhumal shares a good rapport with Modi since he was the state in-charge of Himachal Pradesh BJP from 1994 to 2000. He was president of the BJP in Himachal Pradesh from 1993 and later chosen for the post of Chief Minister in March 1998.

Currently, Dhumal is the Leader of Opposition in the Himachal state assembly. The former Chief Minister will contest from Sujanpur segment. Himachal will go to polls on November 9 and results will be declared on December 18.
