Indians get major relief after US resumes premium processing of H-1B visa

Washington, October 4: The concerns of Indian Nationals seeking H1B visa for the United States has generally increased in recent months. However, the United States giving a major relief to Indian IT professionals on Tuesday after resuming premium processing of H-1B work visas in all categories, months after it was suspended temporarily to handle the huge rush of applications for the work visas.

 

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on Tuesday announced that the Premium processing is now available for all types of H-1B petitions. USCIS also said the administration opened up some categories of the H-1B visas for the fast processing in September.

Interestingly, Premium processing of H-1B visa was suspended in April to handle huge rush of new petitions. The H1B visa which is the most popular among Indian IT firms and professionals. The H-1B program allows companies in the United States to temporarily employ foreign workers in occupations that require the application of a body of highly specialized knowledge and a bachelor’s degree or higher in the specific specialty, or its equivalent. H-1B specialty occupations may include fields such as science, engineering and information technology.

Importantly, following developments came after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj mentioned the visa issue with US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson when the two leaders met in New York last month on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
