Shillong, October 6: Newly appointed Meghalaya Governor, Ganga Prasad was sworn in as the 17th Governor of the Meghalaya at a function at the Raj Bhavan in Shillong. Former Member of Bihar Legislative Council Ganga Prasad was sworn in as the new Governor of Meghalaya. 

Ganga Prasad was appointed as the Governor of Meghalaya by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on September 30, 2017. Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma warmly welcomed the new Governor and said that the Government looks forward to working together for the development of the State.

While taking the oath, Ganga Prasad said that Meghalaya being a culturally rich state holds a special position in the country and it would be the pleasure to work in Meghalaya and contribute to safeguarding and promoting the rich heritage for which the state was known. He also asserted that he would work in close coordination with the Meghalaya Government for the development of the state.

The oath of office was administered by the Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya, Justice Dinesh Maheshwari. Meghalaya Chief Minister Dr Mukul M Sangma, Cabinet Ministers and high ranking officials from the Armed Forces were present on the occasion.
