Talking about the Indo-Ethiopian relation president said that Indian community has built respect for itself and for our country in Ethiopian society with hard work and dedication. He further added, as teachers you’ve helped in nation building in Ethiopia, and as entrepreneurs you’ve created economic opportunities here. Our forefathers first came here long-long ago. They came with spices and thought & took back gold & the wisdom of Abyssinia. He also invited them to visit Delhi and Rashtrapati Bhavan as it belongs to Indians all over the world, he said.
President leads the delegation-level talks with Teshome and witnesses the agreements on Trade, and Communication & Media. Both the presidents have discussed the economic relations. Participation in International Solar Alliance is very helpful for both the countries.
The power, healthcare, and education sectors were discussed by both the countries. During the event, the book "India-Ethiopia: 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations" was released by President Teshome.
Talking about the Business and Investments Kovind said that India Business Forum is the first partner-country forum of its kind in Ethiopia & represents more than 100 Indian companies. India is among the top three foreign investors in Ethiopia. This has created jobs, contributed to prosperity in the country. Indian investment has had a significant presence in manufacturing in Ethiopia and value addition to local resources. Ethiopia has been the largest recipient of Indian concessional lines of credit in Africa with over US$ 1 billion committed.
The President Kovind had a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Hailemariam Desalegn on a commitment to stronger bilateral ties in the same evening. President Kovind thanked Desalegn for his role in crafting a contemporary and modern partnership and said India is eager to enhance development cooperation and focus on human resource training, skill development of Ethiopia's youth. He further added that we have agreed to consider a fresh line of credit of US$ 195 million for development of Ethiopia's power transmission sector.
