Sudan’s trade ban elevated by US after 20 years

Washington, October 7: Trade ban of 20 years on Sudan was elevated by the United States. This decision was taken after the discussion and diplomatic talks for months. From the tenure of former US president Barack Obama, the talks on the diplomatic ties between the two countries were conducted.

State Department spokesperson, Heather Nauert said that the lifting of sanctions is in recognition of Sudan government's sustained positive actions to maintain a cessation of hostilities in conflict areas, improve humanitarian access throughout Sudan, and maintain cooperation with the United States on addressing regional conflicts and the threat of terrorism.

The US decided to revoke the economic sanctions with respect to Sudan, effective from October 12. The decision was based on Sudan’s progress in key areas. Our goal for Sudan is to be at peace & contribute to regional stability. We’ll cont. engagement for more progress to advance these goals said the officials of US.

Hailing the decision Sudan said that it is a positive decision. The Foreign Ministry of Sudan welcomes the decision taken by the American President Donald Trump.

The Trade ban on Sudan was imposed due to Khartoum's support to Islamist Militants group in 1997. They also supported Iraq to Invade Kuwait and the slain Founder of Al-Qaeda Osama bin Laden lived in Sudan between 1992-1996. Sudan broke the diplomatic relations with the US in June 1967 for the first time, following the outbreak of the Arab-Israeli War.
